A Very Betsey Birthday Bash

Fashion Wire Daily - New York - Say you're Betsey Johnson, and you're throwing yourself a birthday bash. First, you'd host it at your boutique in Soho, invite all your fans, decorate the place with massive amounts of pink balloons and arrive on a pink bicycle, wearing a frothy pink frock and wheel your staff around in style in a stretch pink Mini Cooper limousine. That was the scene at Betsey Johnson's store in New York on Wednesday, Aug. 11, for her 68th birthday bash. From the decadent cupcakes bursting with iced pink flowers to chocolate cake pops passed around on trays carrying Betsey Johnson heels to the party girl soundtrack of Iggy Pop and Adam Ant, Johnson was in her usual good spirits as she posed for photographs with her fans, many of whom wore Betsey Johnson dresses in her honor. There were even a handful of Betsey Johnson look-alikes roaming the party, complete with punky blonde wigs that looked just like Johnson's own signature mop top.Celebrating in a major way this year was a no-brainer for Johnson, who exuberantly told the crowd of fans in her store that she was excited to be appearing as a judge on Bravo's "Project Runway" and moving back to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents, which will be erected at Lincoln Center for the first time ever in September."I've missed the tents," said Johnson. "I go in and out of them," she continued, referring to her recent forays in other venues, like the Plaza hotel, "but I just think it's a huge, great, big, exciting New York City move. I think it will be great for the city, and great for the industry, because Lincoln Center is such a nucleus of art and talent and performance. And fashion week is right up there with it."Johnson also revealed that she'll be live-streaming her runway show this season for the first time.As for the rest of her birthday celebration - her actual birthday was on Tuesday - there was no slowing down Johnson, who said she started the day with a photo shoot at the Plaza Hotel, where she designed a newly-opened "Eloise"-themed suite."Then I went to work, my boyfriend and I went to dinner, and then we went to see Jersey Boys," said Johnson. "My third time seeing Jersey Boys. Great, great, great show! It was very fun."She paused."But getting up this morning was very difficult."
