Opportunistic sharks and delusional fools in the world of media create a treacherous landscape of dangers and disappointments for anyone, much less one so new, hopeful and untested like Finn.
On January 12 in New York, she became Ford Models Supermodel of the World. Top style makers, photographers and designers preparing for New York Fashion Week got a chance to see her in that most fashionable attire, the mystique of success. The contest was televised by NBC on January 29, distributing her image across the globe.
At Cafe Colonial in New York City, Finn stepped out of her busy series of castings to offer a few snapshots and insights. Cafe Colonial is a lovely old school joint, offering Brazilian influenced fare, delightful casual brunches and the occasional celebrity sighting.
Finn arrived flanked by a protective interpreter and a proud father. She was plainly verbal and engaging in her native tongue, but she speaks not a word of English. Through her interpreter she spoke of many lasting friendships she had formed during the Supermodel contest, but admitted what one might expect, that a few catfights broke out as well.
When asked about modeling misconceptions, Finn had no conceptions or misconceptions to be confused about, an openness that reads beautifully in her photographs. Simple clean lines, natural grace and inner benevolence will make her popular with more feminine brands. Her youth and flawless skin will likely attract skincare sponsorship and youth-oriented brands.
Let’s hope the benefit of experience is increasingly on guard to prevent a new wave of destroyed child stars. Luckily for Finn, she is backed by the most caring, comprehensive and financially powerful representation around, Ford Models. Lots of agencies, some of them perhaps dubious, want to help along the future famous faces of tomorrow, but few can really put their money where their mouth is. Finn has already banked a quarter million dollar contract as winner of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World contest.
