Fashion Wire Daily New York - What recession? Such, it seems, is the current mindset of a handful of high-end designers who are bucking the dismal economy and offering the ultimate in luxury: made-to-order merchandise. Tom Ford's doing it with the Gucci tote, Christopher Bailey with the Burberry trench, and now Christian Louboutin has entered the exclusive foray, with footwear. For one day only this week, Manhattan's well-heeled are invited to Barneys New York to create the red-soled Louboutin shoes of their dreams.
And possibly more enchanting than the prospect of owning a personalized version of the designer pumps (chosen from limited edition styles and formed from customized skins) is the fact that the French shoe guru favored by Catherine Deneuve and Princess Caroline of Monaco will be on hand to guide customers through their own Cinderella slipper-shod fantasy.
"What's more luxurious than having someone good looking, talented and charming make a gorgeous pair of shoes especially for you?" rhetorically questions Barneys Fashion Director Julie Gilhart.
Though the shoes are undeniably exclusive, the affair is not. It is open to the public from 2pm-6pm on Friday Nov. 1st on the 4th floor of Barneys New York on Madison Ave.
