Target Turns Runway on Its Head With Vertical Fashion Show

Fashion Wire Daily - New York - What do you get when you get when you mix the agility of Cirque du Soleil acrobats, moves from "The Matrix" and the delightful madness of John Galliano? Target's Fall 2005 vertical runway fashion show.At precisely high-noon on a particularly scorching Wednesday in Rockefeller Plaza, tourist onlookers joined fashion insiders in the act of voluntarily gazing upward towards the sun to see what was an all-time first for New York City: fashion modelathletes (note: this is not your average hyphenated profession) vertically propelling themselves along the façade of a nine-story building.Exceeding all expectations of simply "walking" across the vertical catwalk, the black clothing clad model-athletes performed choreographed dance moves and flips to a bouncin' remix of Beyonce's "Dangerously In Love" - a performance visually on par with Keanu Reeve's first fight scene with Lawrence Fishborne in "The Matrix."The extravaganza did not stop there. Upon reaching street level, the model-athletes were joined by more than 60 models who then proceeded to strut their stuff on a runway down the Plaza wearing the latest looks from Target's Fall 2005 collection. While menswear mostly consisted of staple looks such as a sleek Merona black three-button blazer, black trousers, and the occasional brightly colored sweater, the womenswear collection was quite spectacular. Among the most notable looks was Isaac Mizrahi's homage to Jackie O, featuring a black reversible herringbone party coat with Onassis' trademark oversized sunglasses, a Mizrahi black leather satchel and print knee-high boots. Also stunning was Mizrahi's ivory/gold brocade bolero jacket worn over a matching shift dress and accessorized with Mizrahi tortoise sunglasses, a brown faux-croc frame bag and bronze leather kitten-heel pumps. Lastly, Liz Lange's aqua toggle coat made a bold and beautiful statement with its flattering cut and vibrant use of color to all expecting mothers who are sick of hiding behind a black muu muu. With over 1,330 stores in 47 states nationwide, Target's vertical fashion show was yet another successful demonstration of its mission to dress, entertain and impress the masses.
